I came across this quote :
“People pretend not to like grapes when the vines are too high for them to reach.”
― Marguerite de Navarre
It’s so easy to convince yourself you want less than you do. To settle.
If you are honest with yourself though, REALLY honest, you know that you want more.
You want to be hitting the KOM’s. You want to be at the front of the pack on every ride. You want to get up at 5am and workout. You want to be slim and lean. You want to eat right. You want energy levels to rival a kids. You want to be a beast at descending. You want to be able to jump and to whip like the best. You want to be a mountain goat on the climbs. You want to be able to hit 6ft+ drops with confidence. You want trial skills like Danny Mac. You want to be able to clean every climb with ease.
But… you don’t believe you can have it all… so you convince yourself you don’t want it. People pretend not to like grapes when the vines are too high. When they aren’t prepared to put in the work. Or when they don’t believe in themselves enough.
Fu*k that! What are you pretending to not want? What are you giving up on? What are you lying to yourself about? Now, how can you start to WORK YOUR ARSE OFF this week to move towards it?
You can be as fit, strong and fast on the bike as you want to be if you are prepared to work for it.
Smash it this week and reach for those grapes
